Postural strain and desk pain physiotherapy in Birmingham City Centre
Does a day at your desk leave your neck tight, your shoulders rounded and your back aching? There is no single perfect posture, but long static hours and low strength do add up to pain, and both can be fixed.
What's usually behind it
- Long spells in one position with few breaks
- A change in setup, such as working from home on a laptop or sofa
- Weak postural muscles that tire before the working day ends
- Stress and sleep, which make tight muscles feel worse
How Joel diagnoses it and treats it
Your first appointment is a 60-minute one-to-one initial assessment for £70. It covers:
- Movement and workstation analysis, looking at how you move, how you sit and how your setup loads you
- Hands-on treatment and soft-tissue work to ease the tension on the day
- Acupuncture or cupping where they suit you
- Gym-based loading to build the strength and endurance that hold you comfortably through the day, plus simple, realistic changes to your desk and routine
You'll leave knowing what's going on, what you can do about it and what happens next. Evening and weekend appointments are available at 3 Blucher Street, Birmingham City Centre. Receipts are provided for claiming back through work where your employer allows.
If it has become chronic
If your back pain has lasted three months or more and is worse after a day at a desk, the Executive Back Restoration Programme may be worth a look. Most people start with the £70 assessment, and Joel will tell you honestly which route fits.
When to get help urgently
Seek urgent medical help (A&E or 999) if you have chest pain, breathlessness, loss of bladder or bowel control, or numbness around the groin area. See your GP if you have weakness in an arm or leg that is getting worse.
Common questions
Does posture really matter?
Less than people fear. Variety, movement and strength matter more than holding one perfect position, which no one can do all day.
Do I need an expensive chair?
Not necessarily. A comfortable setup helps, but regular movement and stronger muscles do more than any single piece of equipment.
Is a standing desk worth it?
It can help as a way of changing position, but standing all day brings its own aches. Alternating is usually better.
