Shoulder pain physiotherapy in Birmingham City Centre
Pain reaching overhead, lying on your side or pressing in the gym? Shoulder pain is common in lifters, swimmers and desk workers, and the fix is usually a mix of settling the irritation and rebuilding strength and control.
What's usually behind shoulder pain
- Rotator cuff or tendon irritation after a jump in pressing, pulling or overhead volume
- Limited shoulder blade control or a stiff upper back
- Stiffness that builds up gradually and limits reaching or rotating
- Desk posture and repetitive strain that leave the shoulder overloaded
How physiotherapy helps
Your first appointment is a 60-minute one-to-one assessment for £70. It covers:
- Assessment of shoulder, neck, upper back and shoulder blade movement and strength
- Hands-on treatment to reduce pain and restore movement
- Acupuncture or cupping where they suit your presentation
- A progressive strengthening plan and technique advice so you can return to training
You'll leave knowing what's going on, what you can do about it and what happens next. Evening and weekend appointments are available at Apo at the Holloway, Birmingham City Centre. Receipts are provided for claiming back through work where your employer allows.
When to get help urgently
Seek urgent medical help (A&E or 999) if you notice chest pain or pain spreading down the left arm, a visibly deformed shoulder or inability to lift the arm after a fall, or a hot, swollen shoulder with fever.
Common questions
Do I have to stop training?
Not usually. Most people can keep training around it by adjusting volume, range and exercise choice while it settles.
How do I know if it's a rotator cuff problem?
Only an assessment can say for sure. Joel will test movement and strength and explain what he finds in plain language.
Will I need a scan or injection?
Rarely. Most shoulder pain improves with the right treatment and loading. If something suggests otherwise, Joel will explain your options.
