Knee meniscus and ACL rehab in Birmingham City Centre
Does your knee catch, swell or feel like it might give way? Or are you rebuilding after an ACL or meniscus injury or surgery? Strength and confidence are the main jobs, and they are built step by step.
What's usually behind it
- A twisting or pivoting injury that strains the meniscus or the ACL
- Swelling and a weak thigh muscle that make the knee feel unreliable
- A knee that has been protected for weeks and has lost strength and movement
- Fear of loading it, which slows progress even when the knee is ready
How Joel diagnoses it and treats it
Your first appointment is a 60-minute one-to-one initial assessment for £70. It covers:
- Diagnosis through your history, knee movement and stability tests, and strength and balance testing
- Hands-on treatment and soft-tissue work to settle stiffness and swelling
- Acupuncture where it suits you, to help manage pain
- Phased gym-based loading, from thigh and hamstring strength to single-leg work, then running and jumping, with return to sport guided by how the knee tests, not just the calendar
You'll leave knowing what's going on, what you can do about it and what happens next. Evening and weekend appointments are available at 3 Blucher Street, Birmingham City Centre. Receipts are provided for claiming back through work where your employer allows.
If you have had surgery
Rehab after an ACL or meniscus operation follows your surgeon's protocol. Bring your discharge or operation notes to your first appointment and Joel will work within them. Many meniscus tears also settle without surgery, and your assessment will say whether a surgical opinion is worth getting.
When to get help urgently
Seek urgent medical help (A&E or 999) if your knee is locked and will not straighten, you cannot put weight through it after an injury, or it is hot, red and swollen with a fever. After surgery, call your surgical team or seek urgent help for calf pain or swelling, breathlessness, or a wound that is red, hot or leaking.
Common questions
Do I need surgery for an ACL injury?
Not always. Some people do well with strength-based rehab, others need surgery, especially for pivoting sport. Your assessment and, if needed, a surgical opinion will guide this.
How long does ACL rehab take?
It is a long process, often nine months or more before a return to pivoting sport. It varies with the person, the surgery and the sport.
Do I need an MRI for a meniscus problem?
Not always. Scans are considered if your knee is locking, not improving, or surgery is being considered. Joel will guide you.
