Knee pain physiotherapy in Birmingham City Centre
Knee pain on stairs, squatting, running or after sitting for a while? It is often an overload problem rather than damage, and it usually responds well to the right treatment and a structured return to activity.
What's usually behind knee pain
- Pain around or behind the kneecap, often called runner's knee
- Tendon irritation after a jump in running, jumping or squatting load
- Weakness or poor control through the hip, thigh and calf
- Flare-ups of long-standing joint stiffness or wear
How physiotherapy helps
Your first appointment is a 60-minute one-to-one assessment for £70. It covers:
- Assessment of knee, hip, ankle and strength, plus how you load it in running or training
- Hands-on treatment to settle pain and improve movement
- A progressive strength and load plan so you can return to running, the gym or sport
- Practical advice on what to keep doing and what to adjust while it recovers
You'll leave knowing what's going on, what you can do about it and what happens next. Evening and weekend appointments are available at Apo at the Holloway, Birmingham City Centre. Receipts are provided for claiming back through work where your employer allows.
When to get help urgently
Seek urgent medical help (A&E or 999) if you notice a knee that locks or gives way after injury, inability to put weight on the leg, a hot, red, swollen knee with fever, or calf swelling and tenderness.
Common questions
Do I need to stop running?
Often not completely. Many runners keep going with adjusted volume, hills and pace while they build strength.
Is knee pain always a sign of damage?
No. Pain and structural change are not always linked. Assessment focuses on what your knee can and can't currently tolerate.
Can you help with an old knee problem?
Yes. Long-standing knee pain often improves with the right strengthening, though the timeline is longer.
